Q. What got you started in drawing people's pets?
A. My dad built up his dog boarding kennels from scratch, and he suggested to me that I start drawing dogs and building up a little business myself. It took me a while to get into it, but after the first few sells I fell in love with it. I love to see the variety of pets and the challange in drawing each one of them.

Q. Do you use Grids or trace your work?
A. No, I draw all of my work free hand through simply copying what I see. I feel it allows my skills to broaden with each piece and I gain more satisfaction when finishing a picture that the owner loves.

Q. What pets will you draw?
A. I will draw whatever you want me to! I have mainly stuck to cats, dogs and I have had good practice with horses also to be comfortable with them. Though I like to try anything once, so I have no hesitation in attemtping reptiles, fish or rodents.

Q. Do you draw from real life or photographs?
A. I enjoy sketching out studies of animals sitting in front of me, but to draw a good quality pet portrait it's just not practical. So I always request that my client sends me at least THREE photographs for me to choose the best pose and also it allows me to see specific markings or characteristics from different points of view.

Q. Is the quality of your pictures the same as the scanned and photographs you have in your gallery?
A. No, the quality I can assure you is better! Details get lost in the scans as well as colouration alters sometimes dramatically (especially if it's on coloured paper or the portrait is black and white). Photographs tend to make the portrait blurry and bland. If you want to know for sure, you can ask me previous clients here on DA and ask them for yourself
